Auckland Museum is an influential, much-loved organisation at the centre of Auckland's identity, committed to developing and sharing engaging content through its galleries, exhibitions, events and educational programmes.

This is an exceptional opportunity; the successful candidate will bring with them learning expertise and strategic thinking to oversee innovative, engaging, and relevant learning experiences for diverse audiences. This role will be key to enabling the museum to develop its role in the Auckland learning ecosystem through becoming an innovative and compelling GLAM education leader.

They will be responsible for the development and delivery of an integrated education programme that is strong at our core, shared and connected through digital channels, and alive in Auckland communities.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Leading and managing the development and delivery of inspirational and transformational best practice GLAM sector education programmes
  • Working with the education team to integrate creativity, pedagogical expertise and community participation into the programme
  • Ensuring the Māori dimension (He Korahi Māori) and Pacific dimension (Teu le Vā) are embedded into education programmes
  • Strengthening our sustainability through operating more efficiently and maximising opportunities for income generation
  • Providing exemplary leadership and management of direct reports and the wider education team including recruitment, learning and development, performance development, talent management and retention.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Senior management experience in the creative or GLAM sector
  • Demonstrate able skills in the identification and application of education best practice within the GLAM sector
  • Experience driving reflective practice leading to continuous improvement in education programmes 
  • Experience embedding Māori and Pacific dimensions into education programming 
  • Experience embedding a community empowerment methodology
  • The ability to influence and persuade others through personal credibility and professionalism.
