The council is a newly created professional body representing teachers from early childhood education through primary and secondary schooling in English and Māori medium schools. We provide leadership and help strengthen the regulatory framework and disciplinary regime for teaching. We aim to boost the status of teaching, strengthening accountability and bringing consistently high standards of teaching across the profession.

This role based in Wellington will bring ECE experience to a team of school sector experienced evaluators in the Teacher Practice team.

Drawing on your experience appraising others within the New Zealand ECE setting against practising teacher criteria, you’ll be involved in conducting investigations into competence issues. You’ll need to be a senior teacher already, and have proven experience with managing a range of performance situations which result in improvements and behaviour change.

We are located in the heart of the CBD. We are social, support professional development, and provide onsite facilities if you’re active.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • To be a NZ qualified ECE teacher with experience at a senior level
  • A sound understanding of appraisal and performance management
  • A genuine desire to influence the quality of teaching in New Zealand
  • A methodical, systematic approach to managing cases
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse workplace with strong commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi.

The council is willing to consider a secondment for a 12-month period.

Please note, you must have a legal right to work in New Zealand. Successful appointment is conditional upon police vetting and qualification checks.
