  • Psychologist or special education advisor
  • Full-time or part-time, fixed-term position from January 2018 until January 2019.

We currently have a position available for a psychologist or special education advisor to work as a School Wide practitioner in our Positive Behaviour for Learning team (PB4L) based in our regional offices.

The Ministry of Education is committed to inclusive practice. We work alongside families, early childhood educators, schools and other agencies in order to make a positive difference for children and young people.

The Ministry funds and delivers Positive Behaviour for Learning programmes and initiatives that aim to turn around problem behaviour in children and young people and to encourage pro-social behaviour to lead to improved learner engagement and achievement.

PB4L School Wide is a whole-school approach to improving learner behaviour and achievement. School Wide practitioners provide training and ongoing coaching to School Wide teams set up within the school. They work with these school teams to implement consistent and sustainable behaviour support systems that promote quality teaching and learning. We are seeking a qualified and experienced specialist to join our School Wide team in the Wellington region. The successful applicant will be required to be based in the Wellington area.

Our ideal candidate will have undertaken some postgraduate studies in behaviour management and be an educational psychologist, or hold a degree or diploma in education, special education or another related discipline. Candidates should have proven competence in working with teachers in schools to reduce challenging student behaviours, be confident presenters and facilitators with groups of educators and demonstrate strong relationship management and influencing skills.
