Participants investigate and report on environmental issues relating to litter, and propose solutions by using video, photography or writing.
Students submit their projects to the national competition in July to win fantastic prizes.
The competition is open to students aged 11–18 years who attend a school that is registered for the YRE programme.

Judi Cranston, children’s composer and founder/director of kindyRock has written a musical creation simply named ‘Slip, Slop, Slap and Wrap Song’ which merges her passion for education, fun and cancer prevention in a cool and catchy way. Thanks to NZ On Air funding, with advice and support from the Cancer Society, Judi’s passion is coming to life.
The song, aimed at pre-schoolers and young primary school children, is a fun way to encourage Kiwis to make smart choices this summer. It reminds people to be SunSmart even on a cloudy day and to Slip, Slop, Slap and Wrap every day.
