New Zealand Sign Language (NZSL) Interpreting for Deaf Parents in Schools
The NZSL Interpreting for Deaf Parents in Schools service will now be provided by Wordsworth Sign Language Interpreting from 1 January 2023.
The service was previously provided by and booked through iSign – Deaf Aotearoa.
The Ministry has funded NZSL Interpreting for Deaf parents who are NZSL users, and who have a child enrolled in Y0–13 at their local school since 2014. Access to NZSL interpreting ensures that deaf parents are able to be involved in their child/ren’s education and the activities of the school community.
The service is available for:
- Parent – teacher interviews
- Enrolments and transitions
- Special assemblies and prize-giving
- IEP meetings where the parent is Deaf
- Disciplinary meetings
- School productions/plays
- School community events (where funding allows)
