Mathematical content knowledge and task adaptation courses
These courses are intended to support teachers to develop mathematical content knowledge and adapt mathematical tasks to implement in the classroom. Participants will have the opportunity to work with colleagues/other teachers to:
- Develop understanding of the big mathematical ideas inherent in each unit of work and each individual task.
- Contextualise tasks to align with local contexts.
- Anticipate possible solution pathways students may take for each task.
- Deepen understanding of teacher mathematical knowledge and inquiry, including the trajectory of understanding across curriculum levels.
In 2023, we will be offering workshops that cover the following strands:
- Number and Algebraic Reasoning
- Measurement (linear and area)
- Fractions
- Statistics (probability)
- Multiplication and Division (Year 1 – 4)
- Decimals, Percentage and Fractions (Year 5 – 8)
- Geometry (position and orientation)
- Algebra
- Statistical literacy and investigations
All participants will receive copies of the mathematical task booklets relevant to the strand which provide 10 – 12 mathematical tasks to cover four to five weeks of teaching as well as teacher notes and independent activities.
Cost per course strand - $100 (NZD) excluding GST per person.
$180 (NZD) excluding GST for 2 people.
$260 (NZD) excluding GST for 3 people.
$340 (NZD) excluding GST for 4 people.
$420 (NZD) excluding GST for 5 people.
$500 (NZD) excluding GST for 6+ people.
Cost for package of all workshops $650 (NZD) excluding GST per person.
These courses will be run either as a 1 day (6 hours) course during the school holidays, or as 3 separate after school sessions (2 hours each). The after-school sessions will be run either as face-to-face course or via zoom. This will depend on numbers in the sessions and location of participants.
