Mentor Teacher Programme at Kohia Centre, University of Auckland
Commencing Wednesday 22 February this programme covers six on site sessions scheduled 9.30am-3.00pm plus one scheduled online zoom meeting. Continuous personal mentoring and support is offered by Jo Williams, Lead Facilitator, together with a line-up of knowledgeable, experienced facilitators who coordinate a wide range of sessions.
Venue: MIT Otara North Campus, East Tamaki, Auckland.
Session 1: Wednesday 22 February – Starting Back - Jo Williams covers refresher information regarding the Induction and Mentoring Programme. Saga Frost relates to Community Engagement that Strengthens Success for Pasifika Students aligning with Pasifika culture, connections, values, protocols.
Session 2: Wednesday 22 March – Let’s Make Maths Fun Whilst Making Maths and Learning Count with Jill Smythe who offers strategies for building teacher and student confidence, extending knowledge in all areas of maths, emphasizing how to have fun while learning.
Session 3: Wednesday 3 May – Online zoom meeting Celebrating and Supporting English Language Learners (ESOL) presented by Jo Williams.
Session 4: Wednesday 24 May – Jo Williams facilitates The Importance of Oral Language, Sensory Experiences, Play, and the Foundation Skills that Lead to the Development of Reading and Writing.
Session 5: Wednesday 21 June – Inquiring Through the Visual Arts – Building Agency Through Self Expression is delivered by Juliette Laird with practical, creative guidelines and consideration for The Arts as a toolbox for exploring, presenting.
Session 6: Wednesday 9 August – Concerns Developing an Inquiry, Thinking and Questioning Learning Culture with Jo Williams. Glenn Pressnell presents Digital Technology integrating digital technology across the curriculum, cyber safety, exploring useful websites.
Session 7: Wednesday 13 September – Get Your Students Moving (And Let’s Not Forget the Singing) with Manpreet Dhaliwal familiarising teachers with the dance and movement curriculum. Teachers’ Presentations will occur in the afternoon.
