Supporting Junior Children on the Autism Spectrum

You will learn how to support children on the autism spectrum to transition into and thrive in junior classrooms (Y0–4). Strategies will be based on best practice in learning and behaviour. Learning in this course is split between an online course that participants complete at their own pace prior to attending a face-to-face workshop.

  • Understanding autism spectrum disorder
  • Learning how to support children on the autism spectrum to successfully transition to school
  • Learning how to support the wellbeing of children on the autism spectrum in a junior classroom setting
  • Learning how to increase engagement and participation of children on the autism spectrum
  • Learning how to support the communication skills of children on the autism spectrum
  • Learning how to support children on the autism spectrum to have positive relationships and interactions with their peers.

This course is suitable for anyone who is currently working with or intending to teach and support children on the autism spectrum in junior education settings. This includes teachers, teacher aides, learning support coordinators, SENCOs and students studying teaching and education.
