Dance in this professional development programme is approached from an international perspective and examines the role and contributions dance makes to communities, society, education and individuals. Understandings of the history, cultural and/or ethnic context, communicative capabilities and value of diverse dance forms are developed. This programme includes study and experience in dance studies, dance practice, dance technique, dance education, teaching and facilitation, choreography, rehearsal, performance and the evaluation of theoretical and practical dance studies. 

This professional development programme is designed to support experienced and those begining to support dance education in their schools to broaden their understandings, experience and confidence in provide quality dance and movement education programmes in a school context. The programme includes options to examine and experience a diverse range of dance and movement approaches, styles and functions as well as to link this material to the learning and teaching in a range of school curriculum areas. 

Participants will have the opportunity and support to experiment and develop the new knowledge, skills and approaches learnt in their own school or community settings. This professional development programme is ideal for those teachers who have a passion for providing dance and movement opportunities to their students. A high performance level or long experience is not necessary for those enrolling.
