Beginning Teacher Vacancy Support (COVID-19)
The Ministry of Education is announcing a new opportunity for 2021 teaching graduates to join our pilot programme. This programme aims to connect beginning teachers seeking employment with schools and kura which have been impacted by the COVID-19 vaccination mandate.
The decision on whether to appoint beginning teachers who apply for positions remains at the discretion of the employer.
First year beginning teachers will be eligible for a $5,000 incentive for each of the first 2 years of employment at a COVID-19 impacted school/kura. If they continue at the same school/kura in years 3 ,4 and 5, beginning teachers can qualify for up to $17,500 off your student loan.
Schools and kura who opt-in are entitled to $10,000 per year for the first 2 years of employing a beginning teacher to an approved vacancy. There is no limit to the number of BTs that schools can employ under this scheme.
We will send participants a targeted list of vacancies at eligible schools/kura to suit their professional strengths. If interested, we candidates should then apply to the school/kura with a CV and cover letter in the normal way.
If you are a 2021 teaching graduate, register your interest by filling in the survey: Beginning Teacher Vacancy Support (COVID-19)
If you are a school/kura and feel you might be eligible for this programme due to staffing impacts of the COVID-19 vaccine mandate, contact your local office: https://www.education.govt.nz/our-work/contact-us/regional-ministry-contacts.
