Weaving Our Stories l Raranga i ā tātou kōrero: Literacy PLD workshop
Using the Relationships First approach to teaching, Literacy educators will gain an insight into how this looks practically in their classroom. Cognition Education will unpack the discursive teaching approaches to help lift literacy levels for all learners and explore the power of knowing our stories.
This workshop will encourage you to change the way you see teaching Literacy. It will explore the power of local stories that can weave magic and curiosity.
Participants can investigate in depth what a Relationship-based pedagogic model can offer them. We will explore how the power of local stories, whakapapa me te whanaungatanga - connected to New Zealand Histories Curriculum - not only enhances wellbeing, it also lifts literacy levels by rejecting deficit thinking; wrapping high expectations around ākonga. This workshop will walk you through applying the 'kōrero ki te tuhi' approach to increasing your discursive teaching practices within a family-like learning context, so you can see how to take the RbL Profile and put it into action through the teaching of oral language and writing. A practical workshop with the chance to ask questions, facilitated by Rebecca Thomas from Cognition Education.
