STEP (Spanish Teaching Enrichment Programme)

Professional development (PD) New Zealand (nationwide)

Posted: 28 July 2021
Notice reference #: 1HANfk

This brand-new programme is for teachers at primary/intermediate and lower secondary school level who wish to develop or enhance a Spanish language programme and who can connect with native speakers in their community.  It is not necessary to be a speaker of Spanish but we do expect a commitment from teachers to learn the language.

The 2021 pilot programme will allow registered teachers and native speakers to work together to enhance the learning outcomes for students who are new to Spanish language learning. With support from the Latin America Centre of Asia-Pacific Excellence, the programme will allow professional learning in a supported environment.

  • Workshops with facilitators from Future Learning Solutions - Centre for Languages
  • In-school support visits
  • Online workshops to offer continued support through the programme

Please note we are asking schools to make the connections with native speakers but the Latin American CAPE will endeavour to support schools that may have difficulty connecting with the community. We will then offer pedagogical support and training to both registered teachers and their native speaker community members.

Workshops will run between August 11th and December 8th, with two full-day face-to-face workshops and three online sessions.
