Notice reference #: 1HANf3

Out-of-class learning project - Excursion to the historical site of Puhoi village (German settlement).

In this workshop, you will learn about the first German settlers in Aotearoa. You will explore the Puhoi settlement and trace back its German history. Additionally, you will be exposed to the CLIL (Content Language Integrated Learning) approach by applying German history in the German language learning environment.

Another very unique element of this workshop is the linking of tertiary German learners and their research; students of German at the University of Auckland will lead the excursion around Puhoi by sharing their research and ideas for activities with school students.

This workshop aims to provide you with ideas on how to set up a school trip with German language learners. It also aims to enrich your teaching content by providing new insight into the first German settlements in Aotearoa. The content will be developed by the tertiary student guides in a German seminar at the University of Auckland, lead by DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service).

Timings:

9.15am–4.30pm (PLEASE NOTE: Transport will leave Puhoi village between 3.30 and 4pm. Arrival time at the University of Auckland Epsom campus will be dependent on traffic).

Venue:

Meet at The University of Auckland Epsom Campus, Gate 2, 74 Epsom Avenue, Auckland, 1023.
