NMSSA Social Studies: Online Workshops in May

Professional development (PD) New Zealand (nationwide)

Posted: 17 March 2021
Notice reference #: 1HAHxC

Are you involved in delivering social studies based programmes? Interested in developments in students’ learning in social studies? NMSSA is pleased to offer a series of two free online workshops, available in May, to support social studies learning and teaching in New Zealand classrooms and other educational settings.

During the workshops, teachers will explore the Social Studies Insights report. The report is based on insights generated from the assessment of social studies carried out by NMSSA in 2018 at Y4 and 8. Feedback from these workshops in 2020 was really positive, and teachers commented that they could easily use what they’d learnt to inform their practice.

Workshop 1: Up-close with learning and assessment in social studies.

What can we learn about students’ conceptual understanding from the report, Insights for Teachers – NMSSA Social Studies? A close look at how students are working with conceptual understandings and how the information might be used in schools and other educational settings.

Workshop 2: Learning and assessment in social studies.

What can we learn from the report, Insights for Teachers – NMSSA Social Studies? An overview of what is contained in the report and how it might be used in schools and other educational settings.

Places limited to 20 per session. See registration details here.
