Wānanga Puoro

Bringing kaupapa alive through music!

Satuday 20 March

10am - 1pm

2 wonderful workshops to bring richness to your teaching in 2021:

Te Whare Tapere: Exploring Matariki through music and movement

Te whare tapere is the traditional house of entertainment in te ao Māori, which comes into its own during the Māori new year. This hands-on workshop will look into the kaupapa of Matariki and explore its themes through music and creative dance, using resources and techniques that are open to students (and teachers!) of all abilities. Participants will take away fun, practical activities from te ao Māori to help their classes engage in the essence of Matariki in creative, collaborative and meaningful ways.

Tikanga Manahau: Body positivity

A positive relationship with our body is important for hauora and personal boundaries, especially given the influence social media and other pressures have on our tamariki.

This workshop uses the accessibility of music and meditation to make positive connections to the wonderful bodies we are gifted, gently drawing out ideas from children’s own perspectives in lighthearted, relatable ways, and celebrating our gifts through spontaneous music. The practical activities include integrated learning of te reo vocabulary for the body.
