Anita Homewood – See me, hear me, know me: Building on the learning foundations for toddlers
Toddlers have long been referred to as the in-between age, the waiting space from infancy to the independent child. But this time is just as vital a time for toddlers, as they work through more challenges and make discoveries about who they are and their place in this world. We will look at what is happening for toddlers from Magda Gerber's Educaring® approach and how we can support them as they build on their identities as leaderful learners. We will look at our ways of being that will allow the toddler to realise just how capable and competent they really are, weaving Te Whāriki throughout and look at ways in which to make this rich learning visible in our assessment documentation.
Helen Lye – Simple toys make active babies
Magda Gerber is a huge advocate for simple play objects for infants and toddlers, as they allow children to be as active and competent as possible at every stage of development. This workshop will be exploring what some of these are and why they’re recommended, with lots of examples for us to explore and ideas of where you can find them. We will look at how this aligns with Te Whāriki as well as discussing what schemas can be explored with each of them.
