How to Accelerate Literacy Outcomes for Students , with Jenny Thompson

Commencing Wednesday 24 February a one year programme covering 6 sessions scheduled 9am–3pm including an opening mentoring hour and closing reflective period with Jo Williams, Lead Facilitator. Continuous personal mentoring is offered, knowledgeable, expert facilitators, collaborative networking amongst teachers.
Session 1: Starting Back! Jo Williams offers refresher information regarding the Induction-Mentoring Programme, codes-standards, goals, collecting evidence. Saga Frost promotes Community Engagement that Strengthens Success for Pasifika Students by guiding effective communications, exploring Pasifika culture, protocols, values, So’otaga – making connections, cultural Fa’a Samoa aligning with NZ key competencies.
Session 2: Jill Smythe demonstrates Making Maths Fun whilst Making Maths and Learning Count! Jill builds teacher/student confidence, knowledge, emphasizes how to have fun while improving numeral identification, place value, multiplication, division, fractions, proportional thinking.
Session 3: Enhancing your Literacy Programme for Diverse Learners, including Ells (ESOL) Students with Sarah Valintine. This session offers strategies, practical tools to assist with developing teaching and writing programmes, discussion around English language learners and how their learning may be supported and scaffolded.
Session 4: Juliette Laird fosters Inquiring Through The Arts – Building Agency Through Self Expression with The Arts as a toolbox for exploring, discovering, presenting, developing ideas through Visual Arts, gaining practical guidelines.
Session 5: Developing an Inquiry, Thinking and Questioning Learning Culture with Jo Williams providing teachers with a ‘thinking-questioning toolkit’ that can be used immediately to foster a thinking-questioning culture. Resources such as Thinker Keys and graphic organisers will be explored. Digital Technology with Glenn Pressnell covering cyber safety, management tips, integrating digital technology across the curriculum, including useful websites.
Session 6: Teachers’ Presentations providing opportunities for several teachers demonstrating leadership qualities to give short presentations showcasing their areas of developing expertise.
