What is the importance of teaching and learning through cultural narratives unique to Aotearoa? This seminar will explore the influences of people, place, and historical events that have shaped who we are today, and how students could be engaged in this context. Examples from the Pōneke | Wellington region will be featured.
By the end of this seminar, you will be able to:
- Raise awareness of place based education and its potential to localise learning and the curriculum
- Make the teaching of NZ History relevant and engaging to Māori and non-Māori alike
- Explore Māori history and narratives
- Understand how learning from the past helps to locate our place in the present and future.
