Teaching awards and scholarships

Focus:

Assisting with travel and fees for extra-curricular courses. Enabling practical research and providing resources and equipment that will support outdoor and environmental education. 

Purpose:

The John Peart Trust (JPT) purpose is to promote and enable outdoor and environmental education in the formal education sector.

Background:

The Trust was originally supported Palmerston North Teachers’ College which had considerable provision for fieldwork built into its timetable structure. The philosophy of the funding was to provide pre-service teachers with the necessary background, skills and experience to act, in due course, as resource persons for field trips and school camps. 

Value and tenure:

Grants offered annually with the value to be determined by the selection committee.

Multiple grants can be awarded per year.

Eligibility:

Massey University students or staff or alumni of Massey that hold a NZ Provisional Practicing Certificate. 

Selection criteria:

For Massey students or Massey staff or Massey Alumni holding a provisional practicing certificate, for their research and educational capacities in outdoor and/or environmental education. The selection committee will request written submissions of no more than 250 words from applicants for consideration.

Selection panel:

A nominated selection committee comprising the Head of the Institute of Education, the President of the Manawatu Principals’ Association, the Head of Wildlife and Ecology group, the Head of Environmental Sciences group.

Conditions of the scholarship:

The grant may be held, in conjunction with other scholarships, bursaries or awards, so long as those scholarships, bursaries or awards permit co-tenure.

The Selection Panel has the right to refrain from making an award if there are no suitable applicants and its decision is final.
