Professional development (PD) New Zealand (nationwide)

Posted: 12 November 2020
Notice reference #: 1HAEGs

Te Whai Toi Tangata is now offering a series of workshops in 2021 to support teacher aides across New Zealand with their professional learning and development.

Often, our teacher aides work with the most vulnerable ākonga in our education system.  Therefore, it is important for them to feel confident when responding to the diverse needs of individuals or groups of ākonga so that they reach their full potential.

This series of five half-day workshops will support teacher aides in their role as a learning assistant while they support ākonga learning both in and out of the classroom. Our experienced MoE accredited facilitators will offer a range of culturally responsive pedagogies and hands-on ideas throughout the workshop sessions so that teacher aides have an effective kete of strategies to use with the ākonga they support.

Teacher aides will have the opportunity to register for the full series of workshops or select to attend individual sessions.

Session One:

  • Whakawhanaungatanga - The importance of building relationships

Session Two:

  • Supporting ākonga with motivational activities

Session Three:

  • Supporting our ākonga by ‘Doing with, not doing for’

Session Four:

  • Supporting our ākonga with Number Sense

Session Five:

  • Supporting our ākonga with Literacy Learning
