Understanding Anxiety in Children and Adolescents, with Dr Mary Miller
This course is designed to help school leaders/ teachers/ support staff to recognise and understand common types of anxiety that students of all ages may be experiencing. This workshop will help teachers understand anxiety and the triggers that contribute to student anxiety. We will examine practical ways to help support students with anxiety and discuss evidence-based strategies that work. These are explained through hands-on activities and examples.

At the completion of the course participants will be able to:
Mary Miller currently works in private general clinical practice, as well as running mental wellbeing training for businesses (www.mindtherapy.co.nz).
She has previously worked at the Auckland District Health Board, at a private eating disorder service and in private general clinical practice.
She has also lectured on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) at Auckland University of Technology (AUT).
She has experience working with a wide range of symptoms including depression, anxiety, sleep disturbances, perfectionism, and eating disorders. Mary specialises in a range of issues including stress, burnout, low self-esteem, low mood and worry. She has a particular interest in work-related stress and developing mental resilience.

This training has been specially designed for TA’s & Learning Assistants to increase your understanding of Autism and the strengths & challenges of learners with ASD.
Teacher aides can apply to the Ministry of Education Teacher Aide PLD Pilot Fund to attend this course. Please let us know if you require any assistance with your application (your school will need to provide you with an ESL)
