Supporting Social and Emotional Competence
This workshop includes: Working through the new resource book from the Ministry of Education He Mapuna te Tamaiti. Exploring theories of learning development and behaviour. Challenging behaviours in children; positive guidance; whole centre approach to social competence – playing as a good friend; social stories; teaching strategies; case studies; teaching stories. This workshop will cover policy writing and how to work through the hard stuff e.g. what happens when parents do not give consent; if learning support is denied; and how to manage workplace health and safety for employees and others. This workshop is an opportunity for educators to reflect on their positive guidance teaching strategies and to develop an internal evaluation/review plan to increase social and emotional competence in their service. This workshop is over 2 consecutive evenings Wednesday 19 August and Thursday 20 August.
