Online Workshop: Exploring Mathematics Through Play in Y0–2

Professional development (PD) New Zealand (nationwide)

Posted: 21 May 2020
Notice reference #: 1HA7hJ

Recent research around neuroplasticity and brain development impact  the way in which we teach mathematics in the early years. How can a 'learning through play’ pedagogy be applied to a junior classroom to enhance mathematical understandings?

This workshop explores ways in which teachers can incorporate problem solving and play in a junior classroom as part of a rich mathematics programme. It will be online via Zoom and will provide you the opportunity to engage with your peers as a whole group and will include small group break-out sessions and a mix of flexible, self-directed learning based on resources and learning prompts provided by the facilitators. You will leave with resources and practical tasks that can be transferred to classroom practice.
