The Eureka! Awards are a science communication competition for secondary school and tertiary students from Y11 to undergraduate.
They provide an opportunity for the young leaders of tomorrow to showcase their communication skills by researching and presenting their science, technology, engineering or mathematics concept and highlighting its importance to New Zealand’s economic, social or environmental wealth and wellbeing.
Students can win:
- Up to $10,000 prize money
- Plus scholarships
- Plus internships

The Eureka! Awards are a science communication competition that provides an opportunity for students from Y11 to undergraduate, to present their science, technology, engineering or mathematics concept, and highlight its importance to New Zealand’s economic, social or environmental wealth and wellbeing.
To encourage greater participation in STEM careers by Māori and Pasifika students the Eureka Awards include dedicated scholarships eligible only to these studentsfor ongoing study.

Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE) Litter Less Programme and Competition 2020
Do you teach Y7–13 students? Are you a tertiary student looking for a challenge?
YRE Litter Less New Zealand is an enviro-journalism education programme and competition that gives young people the opportunity to be part of the solution by producing creative and engaging environmental journalism.
The competition is open to students aged 11–25 who attend a school or tertiary institution that is registered for the YRE programme.
Participants investigate and report on environmental issues relating to litter, and propose solutions by using video, photography or writing. Their work is then shared via a media campaign.
