Dr Nic’s favourite topic is fractions! Sadly, fractions can be the topic where learners cease to understand and lose their love for mathematics. Teachers can feel daunted by fractions. Becoming proficient and fluent with fractions provides a rock on which to build success in more advanced mathematics.

Research has uncovered factors that make fractions difficult to learn and teach. In this workshop, Dr. Nic presents the findings and through active participation teachers gain ideas for teaching fraction

What you'll learn:

  • Be able to summarise the research around why fraction operations are difficult to master
  • Better understand the challenges individual learners face in using fractions
  • Gain learning activities and games that develop number sense around fractions.

Target audience:

All teachers who teach fractions can gain from the insights in this webinar. In particular, it is aimed at curriculum levels 3 and 4.
