It's Cool to Kōrero-Teaching Te Reo Māori in English Medium

Session 1: Te Whakarite: Getting jiggy with Te Aho Arataki Marau
Half day (9am–12pm)
This workshop will unpack Te Aho Arataki Marau mō te ako i Te Reo Māori - Kura Auraki: Curriculum Guidelines for Teaching and Learning Te Reo Māori in English-medium Schools Y1–13 and provide participants with some simple second language teaching strategies and hands-on activities to trial back in the classroom. We will also delve into the online resource He reo tupu, he reo ora and explore how to effectively use and modify the resource to suit ākonga.
Session 2: Te Hui-ā-ipurangi 1 1 hour online support (TBC)
This online support session will provide participants the opportunity to share their learning from trialling the different strategies back in their own classrooms.
Session 3: Te Whakamāhere:Planning my Te Reo Māori classroom programme
Half day (9am–12pm)
This workshop will support kaiako to plan their Te Reo Māori classroom programme, assess ākonga learning and explore a progression to move students from one year level to the next. Kaiako will also create their own language resources to use with their ākonga back in the classroom.
Session 4: Te Hui-ā-ipurangi 2 1 hour online support (TBC)
This online support session will provide participants the opportunity to share their learning, their ākonga learning and to reflect on their second language teaching practices.
