Review of Achievement Standards Subject Expert Groups – Further Expressions of Interest

In October, we sought nominations for subject expert groups (SEGs) – diverse groups of experts in subjects derived from The New Zealand Curriculum, who will work with the Ministry on the Review of Achievement Standards.

We still have some vacancies so we are seeking further expressions of interest.

The SEGs will work with a Ministry facilitator and a technical writer to develop new NCEA Level 1 achievement standards and associated assessment resources for their subject, based on the intent of the NCEA Change Package.  Each SEG will have eight members.

If you have already applied to be on a SEG but have not yet been appointed, you do not need to submit a new application – we will be considering any new applications alongside those already received.

Expressions of Interest for the te reo Māori expert group are being called for separately, as this subject is undergoing a parallel process adjacent to te reo Rangatira achievement standards.

Applicants should:

  • Have expertise or experience in the relevant subject
  • Have expertise in learning and assessment within that subject
  • Be prepared to commit to approximately 10 days in 2020 for initial subject development
  • Members may be asked to commit to a further 6-8 days over 2021, 2022 and 2023. 

We’re looking for a range of voices:

  • Experienced practising teachers and experts from a range of educational settings and backgrounds, including both English-medium and Māori-medium schools, community, industry and tertiary education.
  • People with experience working with ākonga Māori and Pacific students, and who have a strong, authentic understanding of how Applications are now open from 29 November to 31 January 2020
  • To integrate te ao and tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples’ knowledge and cultures into teaching, learning and assessment design.
