TESSOL Tuition Fees Scholarships for Teachers

The Ministry of Education offers tuition fee scholarships to commence study in 2020 towards a Teaching English in Schools for Speakers of Other Languages (TESSOL) qualification. You can apply if you teach migrant, Pasifika or international students in a state funded or integrated primary, intermediate or secondary school, or early childhood centre.

Who can apply

New Zealand registered teachers with at least 2 years’ experience and permanently employed in a school can apply for the scholarship. We particularly encourage mainstream/curriculum primary and secondary teachers, as well as ESOL specialists to apply. Principals may nominate more than one teacher in their school.

What the scholarship pays for

Scholarship recipients are funded for between 2 and 5 core papers, depending on the course. This includes course fees for each paper and up to $100 for text books for each paper.

University of Canterbury, College of Education

Papers in the above qualifications will contain practical assignments and will assist teachers to effectively cater for the needs of culturally and linguistically diverse learners in classroom programmes.

All schools with ESOL funded students will receive a copy the 2020 TESSOL Scholarship application forms and course brochures. The closing date for applications is Friday 1 November.
