The Asia New Zealand Foundation is offering a professional development opportunity in Malaysia for up to 14 social science teachers in April 2020.
The purpose of this trip is to provide teachers with first-hand experience of the rich diversity of Malaysia as well as the economy, history, culture and customs. Teachers will learn about how social sciences are taught in Malaysia and the experience is designed to inspire them to include more Asia content in their teaching and share this new knowledge with students, colleagues and wider communities.
During the trip teachers will visit primary and secondary schools with opportunity to observe classes and talk to senior leadership team/teachers. A visit to a Malaysian university with presentations focused on a selection of economics, history, geography, politics, culture will be included. Teachers will attend a briefing at High Commission on the broader New Zealand-Malaysia relationship and meet with Malaysian education organisation(s). Participants will also visit places of cultural and historical significance and undertake traditional/contemporary Malaysian cultural activities with an educational focus.
Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents and New Zealand registered primary teachers or secondary teachers of social science. They should be currently in a teaching role and have full support from their principals. Participants should not have travelled to Malaysia previously (other than short transit/stopover).
The Foundation will cover return economy airfares, accommodation, transport, and meals for the duration of the programme. The application period is now open – for details see link below:
