Play-based Learning; Unpacking the How and What to Learning Through Play
This workshop sets out to answer a series of questions that arise as schools move to implement a play based learning approach.
- What are the key components to a successful play based learning approach?
- How do you cater for individual needs during play?
- How do you plan, assess and report to parents on student learning?
- What are schemas and urges?
- How can you invite play and provocations that are meaningful?
- How is a play based learning environment set up?
- Have a plan in mind of what the next steps in their context are.
- Understand the non-negotiables in developing a play approach.
- Have knowledge of ways to plan for, assess and report to key stakeholders.
- Understand what urges and schemas are and how to use them.
Have examples of ways to invite and provoke play with a focus on student interests and developmental needs.
Rebeccah is currently a Team Leader at Silverdale School and has been responsible for the implementation and development of a play-based learning culture in the early years. Since 2016, the school has shared its model with upwards of 200 visiting principals and teachers. Rebeccah has attended conferences in NZ and Australia and has been responsible for setting up a successful professional learning group on the North Shore and Hibiscus Coast.
She has also shared her expertise at conferences such as U-Learn.
