Nature Education: Linking the Curriculum and The Outdoor Classroom

This all day workshop will build the confidence of educators who want to educate children through nature in either their own natural environment or a local nature space. It will provide skills, knowledge and ideas to support children's play in an outdoor environment while helping to make links to the both Te Whāriki and The NZ Curriculum. Aimed at ECE and primary teachers there will be plenty of opportunities for discussion and networking.

We will cover:

  • Benefits of nature play, schema, loose parts and risky play
  • Recognising learning and linking the curriculum
  • The role of the teacher in the outdoor classroom
  • Risk management and group management outdoors
  • Where to start
  • Fire and knives.

This will be an indoor and outdoor workshop so please dress appropriately for the weather.

Where: Andersons Bay School, Dunedin.

Date: Saturday 12 October, 9am–3.30pm.

Cost: $160 (includes morning/afternoon tea. BYO lunch)
