Play-based Learning: The Why and How, with Rebeccah Bassett-Smith
This workshop draws on the successes of a play-based learning model at Silverdale School. Rebeccah Bassett-Smith shares the past four years' journey of researching, observing, upskilling, discussing, implementing, reflecting and modifying how play-based learning is implanted in their school learning community. You will hear about the successes, failures and future plans for the model and reflect on how some of these might be relevant to your own teaching. Participants will collaboratively discuss and design approaches to issues that might be faced in the different school contexts.
The workshop will explore the “why” by unpacking some of the key research that supports the implementation of a play-based curriculum. It will also introduce a model framework and resources in order to understand the different contexts and cultures of the schools participants come from.
Participants will develop:
- Knowledge of the theory that underpins play-based learning
- Familiarity with a possible model of implementation and resources that support programmes
- Awareness of the significance of play within learning.
