Understanding Anxiety in Our Students, with Gwendoline Smith
Gwendoline is a clinical psychologist specialising in depression and anxiety. Her workshops address supporting youth resilience to deal with problems that result from growing up in a rapidly changing world.
The initial part of the day will be an introduction to the science of anxiety and the basic theory of the CBT methodology.
Participants will be provided with a toolkit of cognitive skills, applicable and user-friendly, that could be shared with teenagers to enable them to manage the spontaneous and overwhelming emotional outpouring.
Gwendoline also explores the concept of entitlement, what it looks like and what has contributed to it. She will explore the notion of helicopter parenting and the long term impact of this on youth.

The Kohia Centre programme can be completed in 2–3 months. It is delivered through a combination of 4 face-to-face workshop days, online modules/tasks and a 4 week practicum in a school. (Teachers already employed in long term teaching positions can use their current position to demonstrate effective teaching practice).
