Playing as a good friend is a whole centre approach to providing positive guidance for children that is based on the principles of Te Whāriki. This workshop is an opportunity for educators to reflect on their positive guidance teaching strategies and develop an internal review/ evaluation to increase social competence in the service. The use of social stories to strengthen social skills and dispositions will be explored. This workshop includes: Exploring theories of behaviour; challenging behaviours (violence, defiance and non-compliance) in children; positive guidance; whole centre approach to social competence – playing as a good friend; social stories; teaching strategies; case studies; teaching stories.

Facilitated by Kirstin Prince.

Workshop cost: $120 + GST.

Workshop time: 10am to 4pm.

Venue: Senior Teacher, 8c Ihakara St, Paraparaumu.
