Projects and programmes

Notice reference #: 1H9t6C

We are delighted to announce that Toitoi will be publishing a special journal that explores New Zealand's connections to Latin America and Southeast Asia.

These journals will be delivered to every primary school, intermediate and public library in New Zealand at the beginning of 2020.

For this amazing project, we are looking for submissions that reflect our connections to the countries and cultures of Latin America and Southeast Asia. For example, we would love to receive creative writing and art inspired by family, culture, language, history, tradition, food and travel in this region.

We are inviting submissions by young writers ages 5–14 in English as well as any Latin American and Southeast Asian languages. We also welcome submissions in te reo Māori.

The submission deadline is 24 May.

All writing accepted for the journal will be published in English as well as in the languages of Latin America and Southeast Asia.

This project is a collaboration between Toitoi, the Latin America Centre of Asia-Pacific Excellence, the Southeast Asia Centre of Asia-Pacific Excellence and the School of Languages and Cultures at Victoria University of Wellington.
