Storylines and the producers of the popular TV show What Now have developed a partnership to encourage young New Zealanders to read the best books by New Zealand children’s writers.
What Now is a top-rating, much-loved, madcap, live two-hour show. Broadcast on Sunday mornings on TV2, its target audience is primary school children.
Storylines and What Now have developed an online competition, believing that engaging viewers to participate in a vote for a “Kids’ Pick” from the Storylines Junior Fiction Notable Books list is a wonderful way to encourage the What Now audience to read the Storylines selections for the best books published in 2018.
The vote will be promoted live on air over two weeks, with presenters directing viewers to the What Now website. There they will find video reviews of each of the Storylines Junior Fiction Notable Books titles presented by a primary school aged reviewer. Viewers watch the reviews and vote for their favourite book.
Teachers may wish to watch the video reviews with their class or encourage them to watch at home.
Students can watch What Now on Sunday 31 March at 8am, to find out how to vote. They enter the draw for the book they would most like to read, or tell their friends about, on the What Now website https://whatnow.tv/.
Every student who enters will go into one of two draws to win a set of the 10 Junior Fiction Storylines Notable Books for their school library.
Voting will close on 12 April and the winner will be announced on 14 April.
A full list of the Storylines Notable Books, including the Junior Fiction category, can be found at on the Storylines website
