Deeper learning for students in a collaborative, connected primary classroom with Reid Walker

Students must explicitly learn social and emotional competencies to interact with others in ways that foster meaningful learning (Jones and Bouffard, 2012) and develop a sense of connectedness.

This workshop explores the concept of a collaborative, connected classroom and why this way of working together is important for today's learners.

The session will provide an opportunity to explore and discuss the core principles of a collaborative classroom environment and how these impact on the role of the teacher and planning for student learning.

Participants will work together to plan an approach and design collaborative activities to apply to a learning context. An agreed criteria to evaluate the plan in terms of student opportunities to develop the required skills will be used.

Examples of the ways  technology can support collaboration will also be discussed and participants will be introduced to tools and exemplars of students work to demonstrate these ideas.
