Registrations are open for Auckland Schools Debating (ASD) for 2019. In 2018 ASD provided secondary schools debating for over 1,500 students from 54.

Auckland schools, ASD is a fortnightly competition that takes place during terms 1 and 2 each year. Students in teams of 3 compete in a debate that lasts between 1 and 1½ hours.

Debating teaches students to be confident public speakers, to express ideas and arguments succinctly and persuasively, to work as a team and to be aware of issues in the world around them. Students debate issues ranging from removing junk food from school tuck shops to whether the existence of video games has been harmful. Debating looks excellent on students’ CVs and those who discover a special talent can progress all the way through to being selected for representative Auckland and New Zealand teams. Lastly, debating is a tremendous amount of fun for students.

ASD has a wide range of resources available to students and teachers including a 'how to debate' guide and coaching handbook. We run a number of show debates and coaching seminars which are free to attend for students.
