Improving Wellbeing – Finding focus and calm, managing stress and anxiety
Teaching and learning in schools involves increased levels of stress, anxiety, rising expectations and uncertainties. More children and young people than ever in the NZ are being medicated for stress and depression, incidences of self-harming are increasing, more children are being referred to mental health services and suicide rates amongst older-teens are getting worse, not better. It’s time to change from interventions when things have gone wrong to preventing mental health crises by taking wellbeing seriously.

This one-day workshop addresses these problems through instruction in mindfulness techniques that help to quiet the mind, to improve focus and to enjoy being in the present. Using research based strategies, participants will learn how to better manage their emotions, how to overcome emotional flooding, how to calm the mind to relax and sleep, how to choose attitudes and create a positive, optimistic school. These mindfulness techniques can be used with adults and students in school, at home, in the car, in a traffic jam, on holiday or when trying to find calmness.
