Youth Week 2019
Held 18–26 May 2019, Youth Week is a nationwide festival of events organised by young New Zealanders to celebrate the talents, passion and success of local young people.
Youth Week recognises the amazing contributions and achievements of young people in New Zealand. Each year Youth Week has a different theme designed and voted on by young people across the country.
This year the theme is “We are more than what you see!”, “He wai hōhonu a mātou” (literally, we are deep waters, thus referring to unseen depths).
Ara Taiohi is the kaitiaki (caretaker) of this nine-day extravaganza, supported by the Ministry of Youth Development.
We’re really keen to get as many young people involved in shaping Youth Week as possible. One of key ways that young people are involved is through designing the Youth Week poster (and voting on the final choice!).
Youth Week 2019 grants will fund events and activities that are created, designed and delivered by young people in their communities. The events and activities are intended to promote, support and affirm the diversity of young people of Aotearoa!
