Place-responsive Approaches to Outdoor Education Design and Implementation

Professional development (PD) New Zealand (nationwide)

Posted: 20 March 2018
Notice reference #: 1H9i0t

This PLD takes a contemporary approach to development and implementation of Junior Camp and Senior Outdoor Education programmes. It is applicable to both the primary and secondary-sectors.

The day uses a place-responsive approach to outdoor learning to construct school-wide outdoor learning, incorporating cross-curricular, culturally responsive and environmental and sustainability threads.

Comparisons between traditional and place-responsive programmes are examined, case studies are studied and the possibilities within the context of participants own 'place' are explored.

Target group:

Teachers and senior managers in secondary school who are open to a journey of change in their Education Outside the Classroom programmes.

Ideally, those attending will have responsibility for or have experience in working in Junior Camp or in Senior Outdoor Education. Attendance by 2 staff members is preferable but not essential.
