Pūkorokoro Miranda Shorebird Centre on the Firth of Thames now has an experienced primary school teacher available to facilitate school visits. We are one of the best places in New Zealand to observe and learn about migratory shorebirds - many of which are now under significant threat due to habitat loss and predation. We aim to educate and involve children in action towards shorebird conservation through our interactive and hands-on programme. Local schools may also take advantage of our outreach session 'Box of Birds' designed to spark interest in this area. Onsite bookings are still available for term 1, 2018 – your chance to see the incredible kuaka (bar-tailed godwit) before they depart on their round-the-world journey to their breeding grounds in Alaska.
