Student Agency, The Key to Engagement & Progress, with Bek Galloway

Professional development (PD) Canterbury

Posted: 14 July 2017
Notice reference #: 1H9dbn

For all primary teachers, leaders and principals who want to learn more about how to empower students with agency and how to give them voice and choice so that they can own and drive their own journey.

Empowering students with agency puts them at the centre of their own learning and moves students from being passive recipients, towards actively driving their learning journey at school and beyond.  This is not about handing over complete control to the learner, as this would become problematic. True agency needs a lot more rigor and guidance than a simple "hands-off” approach, it requires classrooms where there is negotiation, facilitation and collaboration between students and teachers to be able to initiate, plan, process and evaluate learning.

This workshop provides YR 0-8 educators practical and real ideas, strategies and techniques to assist students with:

  • Making decisions about what they need and want to learn;
  • Planning pathways to reach targets or goals;
  • Devising & following their own timetables;
  • Mapping their own learning journeys of inquiry;
  • Evaluating & tracking their progress.

If you want to increase the level of agency & personalisation in your learning space, whether single cell or in a flexible learning space, you must join us for this workshop!
